Daycare Procedures

Treatments that require less than 24 hours of hospitalisation

Day care procedures are treatments or surgical procedures carried out under general or local anaesthesia in a hospital or a Day Care Centre. Nowadays, due to advancement in technology, certain treatments and surgeries does not require hospitalisation for more than 24 hours.

Such procedures are listed out by many insurers as Day Care Procedures and allowed coverage under their health insurance plans.

Usually, any health insurance policy will cover only ‘in-patient treatments’ that exceeds 24 hours of hospitalisation. So, in order to cover efficient and cost-effective short-term surgeries and treatments, Insurers classify them as Day Care Procedures.

Though many common day care procedures are covered by most of the Insurers, the list varies from insurer to insurer.

Some of the common Day care procedures allowed by insurers are

  1. Cataract
  2. Certain listed Eye Surgeries
  3. Removal of Appendix
  4. Coronary Angiography
  5. Chemotherapy
  6. Piles/Fistula
  7. Prostate related
  8. Certain listed Ear related procedures
  9. Sinusitis
  10. Lithotripsy
  11. Haemodialysis
  12. Radiotherapy, etc.

It makes sense to review the list of day care procedures covered before buying your health insurance plan.
